Do You Know What Federal DOT and CalTrans Require?

A cylinder must pass inspection in accordance with DOT FMVSS 304.

  • All CNG cylinders must be inspected after any fire or accident.
  • For vehicles less than 10,000 pounds GVWR, cylinders must undergo a detailed visual inspection at least every 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • For vehicles 10,000 pounds GVWR or greater, cylinders must undergo a detailed visual inspection at least every 12 months.
  • All cylinders must be inspected if over-pressurized, dropped, impacted, reinstalled on a different vehicle, exposed to excessive heat, fire or harsh chemicals.
